FAQs

How do I use this at-home test?

Simply remove the 'passive' monitor from the package by cutting the area above the zipper seal. Place the device in a room to measure concentration in an area or clip the device near the breathing zone to measure personal exposure. Be sure to record the user information and exposure time period on the package label. Recommended sampling time is 24 hours when set in a room or 8 hours when clipped on clothing.

What is this 'passive' monitor and how does it work?

Our monitoring device is defined as 'passive' because it has no moving parts. Air simply diffuses through a porous membrane and is collected by a specially prepared medium. This passive method replaces the cumbersome and expensive use of a pump to collect the sample from the air.

Is the 'passive' monitoring badge the best method for measuring personal chemical exposure?

Yes, many experts in the field believe that it is. When clipped to your clothing in close proximity to your breathing zone, the monitoring badge method insures that we will be using an accurate sample of the indoor air you routinely breathe every day in our laboratory analysis.

Does the monitoring badge sampling use approved methods?

Yes, our monitoring device uses analysis methods that have been validated by OSHA, NIOSH and EPA. Our device and laboratory meet accuracy requirements.

How do I mail the sample to your laboratory for analysis?

After 24 hours of exposure, place the monitoring device in the packaging provided and secure the outer pouch by closing the zipper seal. Then return the used monitoring badge in the envelope provided with your kit purchase. Refrigeration is not needed, as it is with some other devices.

When and how will I receive my results?

Results are generally emailed to you within 72 hours. A written report is also sent by USPS that arrives about one week after the emailed results are received.

How accurate are the results?

Quality assurance tests are done for each monitor returned to the laboratory for analysis. The chemicals identified are confirmed using the library of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Do you offer expedited service?

Results are generally reported via email within 72 hours. We cannot offer a faster turn around time than 72 hours.

What chemicals do you test for?

While comparable tests use complicated sample processes and test for only about 20 chemicals, our test uses a simpler sample process and tests for 52+ chemicals, with an option to test for formaldehyde as well. Click here to see the complete list.
